ITINERARY
The Douro River Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a breathtaking landscape where nature and centuries of human craftsmanship converge. Carved by the Douro River, which winds through terraced vineyards, the valley is renowned for its dramatic, steep hillsides that embrace the river below, creating a picturesque tapestry of olive groves, lush forests, and, most notably, vineyards. This region, one of the oldest wine-producing areas in the world, is the birthplace of Port wine, with its vines nurtured by a unique microclimate that balances intense heat and cool river breezes. As the sun sets, the valley transforms into a golden-hued haven, its tranquility broken only by the occasional passing rabelo boat or the hum of a distant vineyard harvest. The Douro is more than just a wine region; it is a living testament to the enduring harmony between nature and human ingenuity, offering visitors an unforgettable blend of beauty, history, and tradition.
There's an optional 3-night pre-cruise experience in Lisbon (Oct 24 - 27). Includes hotel, breakfast, excursions, and transfers to the boat.

We've done these river cruises in July and August and, at times, it was miserably hot. So for our Portugal river cruise, we're going in October. October is known for its clear skies and abundant sunshine with daily temperatures ranging from 64 - 73 degrees, with some warmer days reaching up to 77 degrees. Night-time lows (when we are usually onboard) generally range from 52 - 61 degrees.

As the owner and operator of International Yoga Travel, it is my pleasure to be your host on another beautiful AmaWaterways River cruise. Daily yoga classes on this cruise are offered by Ama's onboard Wellness Instructor and are appropriate for all levels. Usually taking place before breakfast, these gentle stretch classes are a great way to set the tone for the day. Then we're off to play; partaking in walking, hiking, or biking tours, wine tastings at vineyards, and an array of other included excursions. Be forewarned, these river cruises are highly addictive!
